A good hinge. I recently helped out a homeowner whose kitchen cabinet doors were literally falling off. Problem: worn out hinges that were cheap to begin with. He's lucky no one was injured. The doors wouldn't stay in the fully opened 110 degree position and kept closing. It's hard to use a pullout shelf if the doors won't stay out of the way.
My solution was to replace the old hinges with what I consider the best hinge available: Blum compact soft close. Blum is an Austrian company (think German-ish engineering), but they're made in the USA (think not made in China). In almost 30 years in the cabinet business, I've never had a call back for a broken blum hinge or glide.
This was a nice upgrade for them that didn't break the bank. Their doors are perfectly adjusted, and they no longer slam. It was also a way for me to fill up a day that I wasn't working on a kitchen remodel.
Nate the cabinet guy.
